The most anticipated race for female horses is the Kentucky Oaks, a $1 million Grade 1 stakes race featuring 3-year old fillies that takes place on the eve of the Kentucky Derby.
The 2019 Kentucky Derby, held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 (5/4/19) will be the 145th running of the horse race at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. A field of 19 horses will compete in the Run for the Roses and the $1.86 million prize.
The 145th running of the Oaks will be held Friday, May 3, 2019 (5/3/19) at Churchill Downs. Post time for the Oaks is 6:12 p.m. Eastern.

Bellafina was the morning-line favorite at 2-1. The Kentucky-bred bay filly, owned by Kaleem Shah and trained by Simon Callaghan, has $1.06 million in career earnings after winning four of her five career starts, including an unblemished 2019 with triumphs in the Santa Ynez Stakes, the Las Virgenes Stakes and the Santa Anita Oaks.

The Kentucky Derby is this Saturday, May 4, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. While there are races all day, the biggest horse race of the year -- called, appropriately, the Kentucky Derby -- starts at 6:50 p.m. ET. If you aren't going to Derby, you'll need to know how to watch the race and which horses to bet on (Tip: watch for Bob Baffert's horse!). Plus you may need to learn how to mix up a mint julep cocktail!
